Anna
Maria Pigato was borned in San Martino di Venezze (RO) in 1959.
When she was 8 years-old she moved to Nove with her family and
at the age of 14 she came into the world of ceramics, beginning
to work for a pottery-labour of the town. Immediately she learns
all the traditional ceramics working (the traditional flowers
of Nove and some particular old techniques) that soon she tries
to personalize and to develop. Later, after many work experiences,
she begin to learn the main tradition of Nove: the art of "cuchi".
The typical whistles of Nove are called "cuchi". They are interely
terracotta handly made and baked in special stoves.
They
often represent animal shapes, in particular birds, cocks and
owls. In folk custom they were usually bought at local festival
and gave to the lover as a symbol of first courting. The characters
of the magic world of Anna Maria Pigato are most owls, elephants,
horses and cats: every animal seems to be alive and everyone is
different from the other, being unique and special. Since 2004
she spends the whole summer in a big camping at the seaside, where
she created an entertaining pottery workshop: children and adults
can relax their self and have fun painting a lot of objects. Besides
she took part in several ceramics competition and art exhibitions,
for example in Asolo (Tv), Cesuna (Vi), Marostica (Vi), Bassano
del Grappa (Vi), and Montigny (FRANCE): in 2004 she won one of
the first ten prizes at the International Competition of Cuchi
in Asolo.
