Scenografie Donatella Crestani's has introduced to the Paris
fair, 'Maison & Objet', a collection of coloured glazes
decorated by metallic lustre. This ancient technique of
decorating ceramics was invented in Babilonia . It later
moved across the Islamic world and arrived in Spain reaching
one of the most illustrious production centres, Manises
a famous town with ancient ceramic traditions, near Valencia.
From Spain it then propagated all over Europe arriving in
Italy toward mid XVI° century. This technique was adopted
by the famous Maestro Giorgio from Gubbio and then by many
other famous potters. The metallic lustre is fixed to the
glaze in third firing, it is treated with a base solution
of oxides and metallic salts which depending on the various
components create these reflections and iridescences- sky
blue, green, red, orange. Through these changing effects
of light Donatella wishes to give new vivacity to the colours,
the joy of living to the environment where the objects are
placed and by means of the explosion of colours she wants
to bring spring in our homes. Most of the models shown in
their catalogues are available in these colours.
