This
particular kind of wheel can produce objects with undercuts,
such as vases, amphorae, cachepots, which couldn't be obtained
by a normal press. |
The
process is almost completely automated and suitable for high
scale production. To shape a piece you put a ball of clay into
the plaster or metal mould and by turning it also the punch
will be inserted into the mould. |

The
turning punch will press the clay to the walls of the mould
to reach a fixed thickness. |
The
mould can now be opened and the object removed for final finishing. |
